Plover Cove Reservoir Country Trail Information

Neighbouring Pat Sin Leng on the west, the Plover Cove Reservoir is an inlet with grand scenery. Orbiting the placid reservoir is the Plover Cove Reservoir Country Trail. This green circuit is 15.5 km long and takes about 6 to 7 hours to complete. Crossing a very idyllic part of Hong Kong, marked with rolling peaks and dramatic seascape, the trail is a challenge for all hikers. Do not walk this trail in mid summer, unstable weather or during the winter months when northeasterly wind is very strong. The Plover Cove Reservoir Country Trail starts at the rear of the Wu Kau Tang public carpark. Crossing sylvan fung shui woods, you make an ascent to Ma Tau Fung (295 m). Past Ma Tau Fung, follow the 2 km ridgeline trail to Chek Ma Tau, Kai Tsai Tung and then Wang Leng Au. Kai Tsai Tung (311 m) is the highest peak between Wang Leng and Bluff Head. Down in the foothills are rustic hamlets like Kau Tam Tso, Sheung Miu Tin, Ha Miu Tin and their paddy terraces. Up ahead you come to Sam Toi Teng, a small plateau that links Wang Leng Au with Tai Tung. A foot path leads down to Ha Miu Tin village. If you do not wish to continue the hike, take this path back to Wu Kau Tang.

The southern slope that extends from Tai Tung to Mount Newland (Kwun Yam Tung) is a cliff. Past Hung Shek Mun Au, another leg of challenging walk begins. Make your way through Shek Nga Tau, the route winds steadily up the 280 m Luk Wu Tung. Continue south for half a kilometre, you arrive at Ngor Kai Teng. From here, the route heads for Cheung Pai Tun via Fu Tau Sha and Sam Mun Shan. Continuing on from Cheung Pai Tun to Tung Tau Chau, you pass through the south dam, north dam and spillway of Plover Cove Reservoir. Tame the uphill path of Pak Sha Tau till you reach the eastern end of the main dam. Here, the Country Trail ends. However, you have to continue the walk along the 2 km vehicular access above the main dam for the Tai Mei Tuk terminus.
