Tai Po Kau Nature Trail Information

Unlike Country Parks, Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve has no barbecue area or campsite, and naked flames are strictly prohibited. These measures are aimed at protecting the local flora and fauna. Lying near the entrance of the Reserve, Tai Po Kau Nature Trail focuses on forest ecology.

Meandering up a slope, the trail travels deep into thick forests. This is an excellent spot for studying woodland ecology. The vegetation comprises of towering trees and other plants taking up different levels of the forest. Some climbers crawl up tree branches to compete for sunlight. Shrubs that can better adapt to dim conditions form the understorey. On the ground, there are ferns, mosses and lichens which can survive in extremely dim environment.

A stroll on this trail is wonderfully relaxed, in which you can listen to sweet songs of birds. A great variety of native trees grow here. Their fruit attract forest birds to roost and feed while the reserve also supports many mammals and colourful butterflies.
