Not only does Tai Tam Country Trail offer a getaway from the hustle and bustle, it is also a place to learn about the history of Hong Kong. Tai Tam Country Trail starts and ends in Wong Nai Chung Reservoir Park, which was converted from Wong Nai Chung Reservoir, a reservoir constructed in 1899. The park has preserved such monuments as the dam and the weir. The circular trail starts at the stone steps on the left of the catchwater and leads up to Violet Hill, which looks out on Central, Wan Chai, and Hong Kong Parkview. The way to Hong Kong Parkview can lead back to Tai Tam Reservoir Road, which is a section of Wong Nai Chung Gap. It is a spectacular sight there, as many military facilities of the Second World War can be seen, including antiaircraft batteries, pillboxes JL01and JL02, magazines.
